The Italian Society for the Philosophy of Law, IVR Associate, expresses its full support for, and joins in, the commitment of the Turkish Colleagues for the preservation of the Rule of Law, the protection of Human Rights and Democracy, and the banishment of torture, degrading treatment, forced disappearance, arbitrary arrest and detentions, arbitrary firing from jobs, and violations of academic freedom.
The Italian Society for the Philosophy of Law, an IVR affiliate, supports the position of those of its members who will not participate thinking that any participation will somehow legitimize the regime that is taking over in Turkey and expresses concern about real freedom of speech at the Congress. However, it understands those of its members who will participate, being conscious of the situation, to witness for the Rule of Law and Human rights by actively engaging in the Congress, and organizing workshops and seminars dedicated to the protection of Human rights and rule of law values.
The Italian Society for the Philosophy of Law, an IVR affiliate, in the light of recent events in Turkey, thinks that it is necessary that the IVR EC reconsider the situation (also paying attention to the individual freedom of those participating in the Congress) and opens a debate among the National Associations about the forms and ways of participation.
